Newport News Has Two Alert Layers
Virginia Jail VINE and VADOC NAAVI are separate systems. Local VINE serves participating local and regional jail events. VADOC NAAVI serves eligible victim notification in state corrections custody. A registration does not automatically follow a person who transfers between the Newport News jail system and VADOC.
The NAAVI screen represents the state-custody layer. It is not a general public released-person database. Eligible users may receive VADOC notices for events such as transfer, anticipated release, actual release, death, name change, work release, escape or recapture, parole interview, and parole decision. Public status checking remains a VADOC locator task.
Re-registration is the decisive step. When a person moves from local jail to VADOC, an eligible requester must register with NAAVI. If a VADOC prisoner moves back into a participating local or regional jail, the requester must register again in Virginia Jail VINE. Neither system silently carries the old registration across that boundary.
Note: A Newport News jail-to-VADOC transfer requires a new eligible NAAVI registration; the local VINE alert does not move with the person.
Confirm Newport News VINE Releases
Use the event type to choose the next official record.
